Rules

HEIMSKRINGLA-postlisten has strict rules for communication and behaviour: It is important that you read and understand these rules before joining the forum.

  1. The forum moderator will decide who can join the forum.
  2. The language of the forum is Scandinavian: that is, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. The only exception from this rule is for the citing of original sources and historical or academic texts. You cannot demand a translation from original texts into another Nordic language. It is therefore an advantage to have some personal knowledge of, for example, Old Norse (Icelandic) but this is not necessary in order to join in or follow the discussions on the forum.
  3. All contributions shall be signed with the contributor’s correct name. It is not permitted to use a pseudonym or Internet nick-name. It is customary to introduce yourself to other members of the forum the first time you enter a discussion.
  4. Personal verbal attacks on other members of the forum will not be tolerated. At the first offence a warning will be issued. The second offence will result in automatic exclusion from the forum. This rule also applies to any offences committed in private communications outside the forum.
  5. If a subject is not relevant, the moderator can request that it be removed. It is stipulated that this is done on the first request without delay.
  6. Persons who regularly post contributions with little or no interest to the forum will on the first occasion receive a warning with a request to confine themselves to the forum subjects. Infringements in defiance of warnings will result in the person being excluded from the forum. Personal announcements and other "Off Topic" messages should be avoided.
  7. Complaints or questions concerning the forum should be sent direct to the forum's moderator at webmaster@heimskringla.no, not to the forum! If the moderator does not agree with the complainant the case is closed and the subject should not be discussed further on the forum.
  8. As a rule a warning will be given before a person is removed from the list. Nevertheless the moderator reserves the right to remove names from the list immediately if necessary, e.g. for grave violations of the rules.
  9. Do not send documents or other attachments to the forum.
  10. Politics is not a subject for the forum and contributors should refrain from political discussion.
  11. Any promotion of crazy ideas such as racism, fascism and nazism/nationalism is absolutely forbidden, and will under no circumstances be tolerated.
